Ok! So we are 5 weeks into the season and things are a
little different than first thought. To be honest no one had the Rams going 3-2
in the first 5 and they looked likely to finish the season 0 and 16 after that
first week effort against the 9ers. They have turned it around with Case Keenum
under centre and have played some ok football. I still don’t see them making
playoffs.
The Texans have been awful but have still won a number of
games. Will Fuller has been a great edition (if he can just get those drops out
of his game) but Brock Osweiler has been awful. Osweiler has games with a
passer rating below 60. Last season at Denver he went through each game with a
passer rating of 100+. The Texans paid this guy big money so will be looking
for some improvement over the coming weeks.
Carolina have been all over the place this season, before
the year we all thought with Benjamin back they would go from strength to
strength but this has not been the case. It has not helped that since week 1
Cam Newton has been dealing with concussion injuries which he is now sidelined
for. A few more loses and their season might be over at 1 and 4 they are in
deep trouble.
The Browns are not having a good run this year, they are now
through 4 quarterbacks due to injury, the major ones to Josh McCown and
original week 1 starter Robert Griffen III. RG3 is made of glass it seems and
will probably be lucky to still be on a roster week 1 next year. Corey Coleman
was a star early on before breaking his hand in practice, he should be back for
them in a few weeks. Another star for them has been Isaiah Crowell out of the
back field, he has been putting up big numbers.
Dak Prescott, you know what amazes me here? Jerry Jones is
still talking about Tony Romo coming back once he is fit to do so. Its time for
the Cowboys to move on and they have a quality young man under centre ready to
take over. Dak has been solid for a first year player, he was selected late in
the draft and has done nothing to suggest he should be taken out for Romo. He
and Zeke Elliott are working well together.
1 week before the season started Sam Bradford was traded to
the Vikings and people laughed, he has proven everyone wrong and has been in
MVP form helping the Vikings to a 5 – 0 start without their number 1 running
back. He is making Diggs and Patterson look like quality players. Who knows
what he can do for the rest of the year but it looks like they will be up their
again. The one thing you notice is them throwing the ball more. Is that because
of the lack of AP or because they didn’t trust Bridgewaters arm?
The jets are in trouble this year, they had the chance to
really come out strong and prove they can mix it with the Pats in the East but
they have done nothing but turn the ball over. Fitzpatrick came in late to
start the season due to a pay dispute and its showing. The team is now 1 – 4 and
may look to inject Geno Smith into the game moving forward.
One last one of note is the Patriots are going from strength
to strength. It was all up in the air on how they would go through the first 4
weeks without Tom Brady. Jimmy Garropolo was on fire early in the year leading
them to a win over the Cardinals on the road and then getting them out to a
fast start v the Dolphins before hurting his shoulder. In stepped Jacoby
Brissett and he went bang and smashed the Texans. The pats then dropped one
with Brissett struggling with a hand issue. Brady is back and he has not lost
it. 3 touchdown passes in his first week back!
